Australia could see a surge in international touring entertainment and more visits from major sporting team’s as a result of the global merger of venue management companies AEG Facilities and SMG.

The two companies finalised their merger this week and the combined group will now be known as ASM Global and have more than 330 venues owned or under management.

In Australia the key entertainment venues under AEG Facilities’ management include Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Qudos Bank Arena and ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, Bankstown Stadium, Newcastle Entertainment Centre as well as Perth’s RAC Arena and Optus Stadium.

A spokesperson from the Australia ASM Global office told Sponsorship News that the Australian business would now be part of a global network of about 310 venues across five continents and this would have a significant impact on encouraging more touring artists to Australia.

The spokesperson said that in future ASM would be in a better position to attract more live tours and would benefit from the experience and knowledge of world class venues in the group.

He said there would be minimal changes to the corporate structure locally with Brisbane to remain the Asia Pacific head office under chairman Harvey Lister.
