The National Basketball League will be the first major Australian sports body to live stream competition globally on the popular video game platform, Twitch, which boasts a unique user experience with its co-streaming feature.

As part of a two-year deal, live games will be streamed on the NBL Twitch channel and uniquely, , will be co-streamed to allow users to make their own commentary.

NBL commissioner, Jeremy Loeliger, said the partnership not only takes the league to an entirely new audience around the world, but through co-streaming within the Twitch community, it offers new ways to engage its audience. 

The recent NBL Blitz in Tasmania was streamed this way and received 184,000 unique viewers.

Other features available through Twitch include live stats, polling, and chats with other viewers as well as participation in live Q&A sessions and competitions.  The platform also allows viewers to purchase merchandise within the live stream.
