Netflix has appointed Adam Hodge to its brand partnerships team covering Australia and New Zealand following his departure from the NRL’s St George Illawarra Dragons.

Hodge joins the streaming platform after a short stint at the Dragons’ customer and marketing department.

“After almost 15 years with sponsorship agencies Octagon and Gemba, the chance to work directly for … the St George Illawarra Dragons was an honour,” he said.

“While my time with the club was short, I'm proud of the restructure I led and know the Dragons' customer and marketing team is set up for success.”

The Netflix role is to work with advertisers on product placements through to launch activations tied to content releases.

“Having worked in sport and entertainment marketing for brands including Telstra, EMI, Sky and Quickflix across three continents, it feels like everything I've done to date has led me here,” Hodge added.

“Netflix is undoubtedly the most exciting entertainment company on the planet and the opportunity to join the growing brand partnerships team … is epic.

“When Netflix comes knocking, you open the door.”

The appointment comes as streaming platforms continue to expand into advertising and sponsorships.

Hodge’s background across agencies and rights holders provides experience in sponsorship strategy and commercial integration, which aligns with the growing demand from brands to connect with new audiences.

While Hodge’s initial remit is cinema and television, Netflix has started the move into live sports, creating an appetite for a slice of the sponsorship cake.
