Queensland’s Bond University has signed as the official higher education partner of the World Surf League Australia and Oceania for the next two years.

The deal is WSL’s first with an education institution and as part of the sponsorship Bond University students will be given an opportunity to gain industry placements with the WSL across a range of disciplines.

WSL Asia Pacific general manager Andrew Stark said the deal is a good fit because of Bond University’s proximity to some of the world’s most desirable surfing locations.

He said WSL hoped the new partnership would offer Bond students some quality learning opportunities and that the league would welcome some fresh ideas from the students.

Bond University vice-chancellor and president, Professor Tim Brailsford, said the partnership was part of the university’s Beyond Bond program that embeds students in their chosen industry to produce job-ready graduates.

Brailsford said that the University offered multiple degrees that had synergies with WSL Australia and the wider surf industry, including Sports Management, Sports Science, Marketing and Film and Television.
