Monster Energy will return to the V8 Supercars as a sponsor of the Holden Racing Team, two years after being ousted by rival energy drinks brand Red Bull.

Monster previously sponsored Supercars driver Jamie Whincup until the end of 2013, but the partnership was effectively terminated when Red Bull began to sponsor Triple Eight racing, to which Whincup was contracted.

The dispute led to the Schweppes-distributed Monster focussing its Australian marketing spend on a roster of extreme sports sponsorship.

However, Monster has today signed a partnership with HRT and its contracted driver James Courtney. Monster will debut on the car's livery during V8 testing in February, with further involvement likely.

Courtney will also become a Monster Energy ambassador, mirroring the brand's earlier deal with Whincup and Triple Eight.

In other motorsports new, McDonald's has signed a long-term deal with Australian GT team Maranello Motorsport.

McDonald's 'golden arches' livery will be featured on Maranello's entry into this year's Bathurst 12-Hour endurance race, as well as all Australian GT events for the next three years.

The 12-Hour will be broadcast live on the Seven Network in 2015. Maranello will field three cars, including one driven by Ben Collins, formerly the 'Stig' from BBC television show Top Gear.

Sponsorship News understands several V8 Supercars teams had pitched for sponsorship support from McDonald's before the fast-food giant partnered with Maranello.
