The Australian tertiary education sector continues to be a lucrative source of sponsorship with another two universities signing major partnerships with professional sporting clubs.

Flinders University will now be the Adelaide United A-League club’s premier partner. It will receive branding on the front of the team’s home playing kit starting tonight when it kicks off the season at Coopers Stadium.

The deal will be heavily leveraged in Adelaide’s southern suburbs with the club to establish a hub in the area to capitalise on the Flinders University location.

The club will offer opportunities to Flinders’ students to work in professional sport and will access the University’s facilities to further its sports science programs.

Adelaide United chief executive officer, Nathan Kosmina, said that the partnership will give the club the opportunity to enhance its sports science programs. Flinders University’s resources would provide students with unique industry experiences, he added.

Meanwhile, Victoria University has expanded its backing forh the Melbourne Victory A-League club by becoming a new major sponsor and official university partner for the next season.

The two organisations formed a lower-level agreement in 2017 that involved collaboration on research projects. It also featured joint staff appointments and professional development opportunities in the sports science, data analytics and performance space.

Victoria University vice chancellor, Professor Peter Dawkins said the partnership helped build VU’s reputation as a leading sports university with arrangements ranging from grassroots to elite organisations.
